Book review: Six of Crows

Disclaimer: I am a huge fantasy nerd. It's always the genre of books that I want to recommend (probably comes from growing up on the Harry Potter series).

"A convict with a thirst for revenge.

A sharpshooter who can't walk away from a wager.

A runaway with a privileged past.

A spy known as the Wraith.

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.
 "

The blurb for this book immediately intrigued me. I have read author Leigh Bardugo's books before, and her previous series is set in the same universe. In this universe, there is a class of people, called the Grisha, that have powers that can include healing, creating illusions and countless others. Honestly, you have to read the books to understand the complexities behind the world.

While Bardugo's first series focused more on the Grisha; her second series, starting with the first book, 'Six of Crows' deals with the "normal" people.

Basically, it's a story about a heist. The characters are assigned a task that seems impossible, but the thing that really made me love this book was the characters themselves. They were so detailed and I just wanted to know more and more about their stories.

Also, who doesn't love a little romance? You get plenty in this book, but it's not overpowering at all. My favorite character in the novel is probably Inej, who is known as the Wraith. Honestly though, it's hard to have a favorite character because they're all so well-written.

If you are a fan of Bardugo's other books, or if you like fantasy, I would definitely read this. It's been one of my favorite books so far this year.

One negative...the book is a series, so you will have to wait for the second book, as it doesn't come out until September!
